Port Lympne Welcomes Another Prickly Arrival!
Exciting news from Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve as they announce the birth of a new baby porcupine! The adorable porcupette arrived on 2nd April 2025, much to the delight of the animal team.
The newest addition is the second offspring for proud parents, Dad Tiombe and Mum Umlilo. Tiombe joined the Port Lympne family on July 7th, 2023, from another collection. Umlilo, born on January 19th, 2020, arrived shortly after on December 24th, 2023.

This is the second successful birth for the pair in quick succession, with their first porcupette, a female, born on December 1st, 2024. Typically, porcupines have only one litter per year, consisting of one to three offspring, making this second arrival so soon an exciting and slightly unexpected surprise for the team.
The animal care team are keeping a close eye on the new arrival and report that the whole family is doing well. As nocturnal creatures, the porcupines tend to be less active during the day, often sleeping, and become more lively in the afternoons.
Visitors to Port Lympne may catch a glimpse of the new family as they start to become more active later in the day. The team are yet to determine the sex of the new porcupette and will share further updates as they become available.
This delightful birth underscores Port Lympne’s ongoing commitment to the conservation and care of a diverse range of animal species.
New Arrivals
Other new additions just in time for half term at Port Lympne include: the arrival of a delightful axis deer fawn in the herd roaming the safari experience, a tiny roan antelope calf and a new arrival in the Przewalski horse herd - a little filly born on 10th May 2025 to mum, Ganzaya.

Guests can also explore the rolling Kentish savannah on one of Port Lympne’s iconic safari experiences. These explorations across the safari zone offer a totally immersive safari experience unlike anything outside of Africa, getting up close and personal to free roaming animals.
