Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris
Capybara are the largest rodent in the world. They are great swimmers and can remain underwater for up to 5 minutes. They inhabit savannah and dense forest along the Amazon and are closely related to guinea pigs, but unlike your guinea pig at home, they weigh between 35-65 KG! Capybara can live in groups of up to 100 animals, however, usual group size is around 10 to 15 individuals. They have litters of 4 kits on average, although this can vary in number up to 8 infants.
