International Tiger Day at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve
International Tiger Day on 29 July 2026 is a powerful reminder of the urgent need to protect one of the world’s most iconic and endangered species. With fewer than 4,000 tigers remaining in the wild, this global awareness day shines a spotlight on conservation, habitat protection, and the collective effort needed to secure a future for these extraordinary big cats.
At Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve, conservation is at the heart of every guest experience. There is no more meaningful (or memorable) way to celebrate International Tiger Day than with a stay at Tiger Lodge, where luxury meets purpose and where your visit directly contributes to vital wildlife conservation.
Why Tigers Need Your Help
Tigers once roamed across vast regions of Asia, but today their range has shrunk by around 95%.
The biggest threats include:

International Tiger Day, established in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit, aims to reverse this decline by raising awareness and inspiring global action. Supporting conservation organisations, spreading awareness, and choosing ethical wildlife experiences all play a part.
Meet Amura & Mischa: Your Wild Neighbours
Your closest neighbours during your stay at Tiger Lodge are the awe-inspiring Amur (Siberian) tigers, one of the rarest tiger subspecies on Earth.
Mischa
Amura
Amura and Mischa can often be seen patrolling their enclosure or asleep on their earth mounds. Amura is very driven by scent enrichment and loves perfume. Mischa loves his food, and prefers a simple life and will often be found sitting near Amura for company. You'll often hear Mischa calling out to Amura when she's in season which sounds quite impressive. Watching their behaviours up close offers a deeper appreciation for their intelligence, power, and vulnerability.
From the moment you arrive, you are immersed in their world, watching them roam, rest and interact just beyond your window.
Don’t forget to visit Amura’s sister Amba, who also lives at Port Lympne, as you’re exploring the reserve in your personal golf buggy. Although they might look identical, they have very different personalities and can be identified by their markings, Amba has several stripes on her lower front left leg whereas Amura only has a single black stripe.
