Kobus ellipsiprymnus ssp. defassa
Defassa waterbuck are found west of the Great Rift Valley and range from Ethiopia west to Senegal, forming herds of up to 30 individuals. They have a coarse coat and are found near water in plains, woodlands, swamps and flood plains. They have a strong musky scent that is produced by an oily secretion coating the fur, which helps them to identify other waterbuck. Males have long, heavily-ridged horns that can reach up to 99cms in length.
