Howletts & Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks is part of a charity based organisation committed to protecting rare and endangered animals from extinction through captive breeding and re-introduction programmes.
The horticulture department at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park have a part time vacancy for an experienced gardener.
Working initially on your own the holder will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds and gardens at a newly acquired 15th Century property. Duties will mainly include grass cutting and strimming but also will include identifying the plants that can be kept for future use. Duty could also include hedge cutting, cleanliness and appearance of paths, steps and walkways, planting and maintenance of annual boarders, baskets, tubs and urns, maintenance of herbaceous, shrub and mixed borders and glasshouse duties.
Horticulture or similar qualifications are a distinct advantage but not essential for this role as experience of similar work will also be considered. You must be physically fit with good general horticultural knowledge and the ability to work well mainly unsupervised or as part of a team. A valid manual driving licence is essential as you will be driving company vehicles. We are looking for someone who is motivated, enthusiastic and flexible and happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Working hours are 7:30am – 4:00pm (24 hours a week) initially and may include weekends and bank holidays.
