Internship placement available on our Gardens section.
Howletts Wild Animal Park and Port Lympne Reserve work in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation; a charity committed to conservation and the reintroduction of captive bred species back into their natural habitats.
At Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, we have an exciting new internship placement available on our Gardens section.
These placements are an excellent opportunity for you to shadow our experienced gardeners and to learn all aspects of horticulture management. They will provide comprehensive practical training and significant insight into a successful and responsible zoological collection, with the goal of promoting your future employability in a career in horticulture.
Candidates need to have a good level of fitness and will be happy with heavy lifting as this position can be physically demanding. We are looking for people who are motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
This placement is ideal for individuals already studying, looking to study or have recently finished a horticultural related course and are looking to gain experience in the industry. Previous experience with horticulture is beneficial, but not essential to the role as full training will be given.
We are looking for a commitment of 3-5 days a week for 4-12 months for these internships.
As we are a Registered Charity, funded entirely by visitor fees and donations, we regret we are unable to offer any wages or salary for the placement. We will provide a full uniform and discount at the parks food outlets for the days that you attend work. No other financial benefits are offered. Candidates will need to have the ability to financially support themselves for the entire length of the internship. Please be aware that unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation.
To apply, email your CV and covering letter, specifying the department you would like to work with, to April Hall, Volunteer@aspinallfoundation.org
