Howletts & Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks, in conjunction with the Aspinall Foundation, are a charity based organisation committed to protecting rare and endangered animals from extinction through captive breeding and reintroduction programmes. The parks are home of one of the world’s most prized wild animal collections and are one of the biggest visitor attractions in Kent.
Port Lympne Reserve is a 600-acre estate comprised of animal enclosures, including the Asian & African Safari experiences where visitors are driven through a 100-acre free roaming animal enclosure, as well as a variety of visitor accommodations ranging from the Mansion Hotel to tented family glamping and luxury lodges along with several restaurants.
We are currently looking to recruit an estate manager for Port Lympne Reserve to manage the day to day operations of the entire estates department, in the diverse and rapidly expanding environment of a wild animal park. This role will include a 3 month hand-over period to ensure you have a full understanding of the role.
The main duties of this role will include; Managing the day-to-day operations of the African Safari Experience along with managing the Road Crew, Transport team, Gardens team and the Cleaning team. You will be responsible for all areas of the park’s presentation, signage, maintenance needs and oversee health and safety with assistance from an external Health & Safety consultant. You will also be responsible for the parks fleet of vehicles, ensuring all relevant paperwork is complete and the fleet is maintained in line with road safety standards.
Other duties will include; effective control of the department budgets, act as duty manager when required including some weekends, act as a point of contact for any customer queries and/or complaints regarding the African Safaris services, ensuring staff adhere to company policies and procedures, liaising with the Howletts Estates Manager when necessary and other departments within the parks. Liaising with external contractors to conduct maintenance including electrical, painting and carpentry.
The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a senior operations role within a holiday park, visitor attraction or similar. You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable making decisions, as well as proven experience managing a budget and a good working knowledge of Health & Safety in a visitor attraction or similar environment. You will also need to be computer literate and have exceptional multi-tasking skills. Previous experience of dealing with a variety of contractors would be advantageous as well as a familiarity with ‘O’ licenses.
A full valid driving license is essential for this role.
This role is 40 hours per week, worked five days out of seven and will include bank holidays and some weekends.
