World Tapir Day 2013
Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Ashford and Howletts Wild Animal Park, near Canterbury, will host a weekend of all things tapir, from Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th April, to celebrate World Tapir Day 2013.
Visitors will be able to join the keepers to learn all about these unusual animals, the threats they face in the wild and what can be done to help save them from extinction.
Port Lympne is home to a group of eight Malayan tapirs and as part of the activities, visitors will be able to meet the group and the two newest members – Kejutan and Manado, both of whom were born at the park last year.
Howletts is home to six Brazilian tapirs and has recently announced their latest birth – a male called Inca.
Tapir celebrations will be running all weekend from 27th April and are free to enter. Tapirs can be adopted online for as little as £3.50 per month. Alternatively, visitors can take advantage of the ‘adopt in a box’ scheme, which includes a cuddly tapir and can be purchased from the gift shop at the park.
