The Social Network
Visitors to Howletts Wild Animal Park, near Canterbury, this September can discover exactly how animals communicate without the use of social media sites such as Facebook.
September’s theme is ‘The Social Network’ and there will be special events, talks and activities taking place every day and at the weekends, for visitors to participate in.
Neil Spooner Animal Director at Howletts said: ‘This September the theme focuses on the way that animals communicate. Obviously, they don’t use Facebook or Twitter – so how do they talk to each other? Visitors will be able to learn how and why the animals snort, cough, hoot or trumpet – it can get very noisy here at the wild animal park!
Every day throughout September there will be a self guided trail for visitors to follow where they can learn about the various ways in which animals communicate and there will be special talks centred on animal communication. Over at the Education Centre visitors will be able to use their tracking skills to identify poo and try their hand at the animal sounds quiz game.
In an exciting development and incorporating the monthly theme - the winners of July’s photo competition will be announced on the parks social media sites, whilst on Facebook, the winners of last month’s caption competition will be put forward via a poll, where the caption and picture with the most likes will be made into a postcard for sale in the parks retail outlets.
