Noel & Tao

Location:
Port Lympne
Gender:
Male
Date Of Birth:
25/12/1998

Port Lympne is home to a pair of male crowned lemurs - Noel and Tao.

Noel is very curious and an extremely friendly animal. Originally from Paris Zoo (Vincennes) his name means ‘Christmas’ in French, as he was born on Christmas day.

Tao also came to us from Paris Zoo one year after Noel and is also very friendly and, although there is only a year’s difference in age between them, he acts like a much younger animal.

Both animals are very fond of walnuts and Tao is even known to try and pinch them from the supply left in the corridor of their enclosure. Noel has had some more adventurous experiments with his diet lately as keepers noticed he had been eating a lot of acorns that had been dropping in to his enclosure so they had to cut down the tree as acorns can be quite toxic to most animals!

The Aspinall Foundation is now involved with lemur projects in Madagascar, more information on our in-situ work can be found here
