Trapeng
Fishing cat, Trapeng was born in Cambodia after her parents were rescued from the wildlife trade and placed in the care of a wildlife rehabilitation centre. Because of her wild origins, she is very important to the international breeding program. When she arrived at Port Lympne she was a very shy cat and would only show herself in the evening when she thought no one was around.
After failed attempts to mix her to a proven male, she was finally paired with a male named Stomp. They produced their first kittens in 2006 and raised their second litter in 2008. After the birth of her kittens, her behaviour changed quickly, and she became more confident – thinking nothing of challenging her keepers if they get too close to her family. Sadly, Stomp died from renal failure and bladder cancer in 2009. Trapeng has since been paired with Pakong - a new younger male from France. She has been seen following him around their enclosure and she calls to him but at the moment he is showing no interest in mating her! Only time will tell...
