Eva
Eva is a very special addition to the primate section as she had to be hand reared after being born by caesarian section. As is often the case with caesarian zoo-babies, their mothers are disinclined to care for them and attempts to reunite her with her mother Bamboo were unsuccessful.
Unfortunately, the rest of her group considered her to be an outcast also and although all seemed to be going well once she had been returned to her family group, her father Tom later attacked her resulting in Eva losing one of her hands. Once she had recovered from this attack, keepers placed her in an enclosure on her own though plans are afoot to pair her up with a male from Howletts.
Despite losing her hand, Eva seems to cope quite well and can be seen climbing around her enclosure and playing with the toys the keepers give her. She can certainly play the part of the spoiled princess at times if she doesn’t get her way and often seeks play and attention from keepers when they come into her enclosure. Despite her occasional tantrums, she is a much-loved character amongst staff here at Port Lympne.
